🎧 Listening (DSKP 1.1.1, 1.2.1, 1.2.2) — Unit 8: The Robot
Objective: Assess pupils’ ability to understand simple spoken questions and responses using can to express ability (e.g., Can you jump? Yes, I can. / Can you swim? No, I can’t.) and to demonstrate understanding by choosing the correct picture.
Activities
1. Listen and Choose the Correct Picture
Pupils listen to short spoken questions or sentences such as Can the robot dance? or Yes, it can. / No, it can’t.
They then choose the picture that matches the question or answer.
Each recording will be played twice. Pupils identify key words such as can, can’t, and action verbs (jump, swim, run, fly, dance).
Grading (auto TP from % score)
90–100 → TP6: Listens and understands spoken questions and responses using can with ease; chooses the correct picture accurately and independently.
76–90 → TP5: Understands most spoken questions and answers using can/can’t; selects the correct picture with minimal support.
61–75 → TP4: Understands the main idea in simple can questions and answers with some support; occasionally makes errors in identifying pictures.
41–60 → TP3: Recognises familiar can or can’t patterns in speech and links them to pictures with guidance.
21–40 → TP2: Recognises a few familiar words (e.g., can, jump, run) in spoken sentences with strong support.
0–20 → TP1: Recognises only a few isolated words or sounds with heavy support.
Suggested DSKP Elements
1.1.1 Recognise and reproduce with support a range of high-frequency target language phonemes (e.g., /k/ in can, /r/ in run).
1.2.1 Understand with support the main idea of simple spoken sentences and questions (e.g., Can the robot jump?).
1.2.2 Understand with support specific information and details in simple spoken exchanges (e.g., identifying Yes, it can / No, it can’t).
