Objective: Assess pupils’ ability to recognise and read free-time related words (e.g., swim, play football, read, ride a bike), understand the main idea and specific details of very simple sentences, and answer questions based on short written texts.

Read and Choose the Correct Answer
Pupils read short sentences or questions such as Ali likes to swim on Sunday or How many books does Sara have? and select the correct answer from multiple choices.


Grading (auto TP from % score)

  • 90–100 → TP6: Reads and understands free-time related words and sentences with ease; answers comprehension questions accurately and independently.

  • 76–90 → TP5: Reads and responds accurately to short questions and statements with minimal support.

  • 61–75 → TP4: Understands main ideas and some details in very simple sentences with support; answers simple questions.

  • 41–60 → TP3: Recognises familiar free-time words and phrases and links them to simple questions with guidance.

  • 21–40 → TP2: Recognises a few familiar free-time words or letters with support.

  • 0–20 → TP1: Recognises only a few letters or words with strong support.

  • 2.1.1 Recognise and sound out letters of the alphabet in English (e.g., /s/ in swim, /r/ in read).

  • 2.2.1 Recognise and read familiar high-frequency words and simple phrases (e.g., play football, ride a bike).
